Instagram has been found testing many upgrades to stories that include a layout mode, new boomerangs, and redesigned icons.
This test was discovered by reverse engineering professional Jane Manchun Wong, whose track record for finding unreleased features is second-to-none.
In the screenshot Wong shared on Twitter you’ll see the new icons and several of the layout choices.
Wong goes into additional detail about each of those options on her blog that also contains more screenshots.
New Layout Mode
The new layout mode for stories works almost like Instagram’s Layouts app, that permits users to make icon collages and share them on their main feed.
Layouts for stories lets users produce collages either by taking photos with the stories camera or uploading photos from their camera roll.
Instagram is testing new varieties of boomerangs, giving users five more options to settle on from. quite step up from the present one-size-fits-all boomerang mode.
After recording a boomerang, users will set it to do various things at the end of each loop like pause or wiggle. There also are choices to make the recording move quicker and slower.
These options are simply being tested at the moment, but given how far along in development they’re it looks seemingly they’ll get an official release prior to later.
